About

The Atelier

Circular Atelier Amager was established in February 2023. It is located in an old building on Brysselgade in Amager, and the small space—only 25 m²—is used in various ways.

The Atelier serves as a creative space where clothes and textiles are repaired, altered, refashioned, or transformed into something new. Secondhand, discarded, or deadstock materials are repurposed to create new items.

The space also hosts sewing courses, group or team building workshops, and provides opportunities for collaboration with other professionals to inspire change in the industry.

The Founder

Hi, my name is Valeria Franci, and I am Circular Atelier’s founder and sole driving force.

I have a background in Visual Design from the University of Florence, Italy. After almost a decade of developing brand image and websites for companies, I decided shift my focus to my lifelong passion- sustainable textile design.

After I moved from Italy to Copenhagen, I organised and ran workshops for the  NGO Materiale Centralen while promoting awareness about discarded materials’ repurposing and reuse. Via my collaboration with Copenhagen Fablab I taught people how to repair and transform their old clothing, and use soft materials to create new items. I also gave my personal creativity an outlet by designing limited collections of accessories based on deadstock or discarded textiles.

The above experience made me realise that I wished to launch my creative space where my values of reusing, repairing, upcycling, learning from each other and creating a local community are the focal points. This is how Circular Atelier Amager was created and continues evolving.
